White House Redux Competition

By Marissa Shrum

White House ConstructionThe original design of the White House is the product of a competition held in 1792. James Hoban was 30 years old when he created the winning design.

Two hundred and sixteen years later, Storefront for Art and Architecture, Control Group, and our friends at Surface Magazine are holding a contest, WHITE HOUSE REDUX, for individuals and groups to submit design ideas for a new White House — 2008 style, celebrating the election of the United States 44th President.

This year’s election is ground-breaking from a number of angles; from the candidates to the use of technology and social media in campaigns.

We’d like to see a new White House that can be the icon for an interconnected world and a new approach to American democracy…If anyone with a design sensibility wants to collaborate, hit us up in the comments section.

First Prize is: 5k, Exhibition at the Storefront Gallery, and published work in Surface Magazine. The registration and submission deadline is April 20, 2008.
