Really? — By Michael French

BROWSE —

I read this and almost yacky-doo’d all over myself.

If we ran it, we’d recycle pretty much everything…but never our content. Is there any reason why every new movie/show/play needs to be a remake of an adapted story of a remade short story of a scribbling on a napkin of a stupid idea to begin with? Is creativity at an all-time low? American Psycho on Broadway? Whatever happened to original screenplays and scripts?

What’s next? Showgirls: an ABC Family miniseries.

New ideas apparently don’t get a lot of shine on Broadway (Patrick Bateman AND Spider-Man are on their way)…or in Hollywood (NBC’s revamp of Knight Rider)…or in politics (the fact that somebody John McCain’s age would even be cosidered as our next president)…or in reference to the double-fucked economy (the free market can honestly kiss my bitter ass).

A friend who works in movies tells me, “We always go for the guaranteed dollar.” Yeah, no shit man. I really thought Step It Up 2 was a French auteur’s passion project.

Are we ever going to move away from the “making the buck” disposition? At what point do we come to a societal realization that the more we concentrate on making money, the less we concentrate on making quality, or creating something worth while?

Can’t wait until Snakes on a Plane: The Musical hits the stage…ugh.

Addendum: Knight Rider TANKED. Suck it Ben Silverman. Your shitty shows can suck it too.
