Gimme Dat Mobile and a Virtual Sabbatical — By Michael French
BROWSE —
Stacey Higginbotham nicely paraphrases some “Okay, the kids like cell phones” report from Forrester in “Startups to Secure Millenials.”
I love how people examine us like we’re from LV-426. Like we need to be quarantined and probed until they figure out exactly what to do with us; those crazy, opinionated youngsters. Yes, we want mobile access and the ability to work outside the office. I don’t think this stems from a desire to work during our commutes as much as it does our great hope to take virtual sabbaticals and let our brains roast outside the confines of a traditional office space.
Cubicles, fluorescent lights and a lack of ability to freely hop from one task to another makes us feel like we’re imprisoned; tied down to a world that we’re miles ahead of. In this sea of information, we need the freedom to shine and to work towards a real objective. Sitting in the same place for 40 hours a week isn’t a tactic, it’s a hindrance.
Let our people go! We’ll text you when we finish that proposal.
