Take Me Out, Ma-na-na-neerner-na-neh-nahh — By Michael French
Ramit Sethi’s October 12th guest post on GetRichSlowly.com is a good’un. Read ze words.
I agree: taking a potential investor, boss, potential boss, colleague, someone you admire, etc., out for grub is a redonkulously efficient way to garner advice and/or establishment a lasting business relationship. MR and MS took me out for food and drinksies about 8 months ago, now we can’t get enough of each other. It’s a weird, sick relationship. I cry, they laugh. Sick.
Being asked for advice conjures an ingrained narcissistic egomania, which is why people like it. “They want to talk to ME? Yeahhh.”
My only question is: $20? Really? Where we eating man? Subway? “Brah, got this great idea for a company. Let’s meet up, grab some $5 Footlongs, go to the Madison Square doggy park and just chat. I miss that Horseraddish Roast Beef like a long lost brother. Hello? Hello?” Maybe it’s this obnoxious NYC bubble I’ve been absorbed into, but 20 bones isn’t gonna cut it.
One other point, the most important one: HAVE FUN at your lunch. Really yuck it up. Laugh a bit. Show the person you’re a human being. When you hit them up with that follow-up e-mail, send them a link to this…
…they’ll love it.
