“Generation We,” Eric Greenberg and the Temple of Light — By Michael French
BROWSE —
The abundance of “changing of the guard/we’re gonna rock this bitch for realz” language perpetuating around the net is geeking me out man. Honestly. I’ve never felt so upbeat and inspired by the American political process.
Is it the shit-or-get-off-the-pot situation? Kind of.
Is it Obama? Yep.
Is it us getting tired of the steaming hot shit-baths? Most definitely.
Whether the Boomers, the Wall Street Journal, your grandfather or John McCain like it: the millennials have a voice. Ron Alsop & Co. may think we’re snotty and “entitled,” but we’re about to run this ish, so they need to have some Metamucil and get over it. Yes, we believe in helping ourselves AND each other. I apologize if that ruins the “make money, buy shit, make money, buy shit” values you’ve handed down to us.
Eric Greenberg, gnarly dude and author of “Generation We: How Millennial Youth Are Taking over America and Changing Our World Forever,” had a cool post on the Huff yesterday, declaring, brilliantly, that the “Will they vote?” question is officially dead. DEAD. Understand? Yes, we are going to vote. And yes, we care about our future. The older gens may think we don’t because we like the internet and iPods and bong rips and doing like 95 bagillion things at once, but, like, that’s just they’re opinion man. As Greenberg also says: “The familiar rhetoric of the young being self-absorbed and not engaged will be put to rest.” Amen bro. Amen.
Greenberg’s book is available as an open-source download here: www.gen-we.org
We, the millennials, aren’t interested in the politics of fear or bigotry. We’ve sniffed you out, you blindly hateful, war-mongering filth pigs. And we’re coming ’round the bend to take it back. Consider Michael French stoked.
