When Advice and Efforts Fall Short… — By Michael French

BROWSE —

So apparently my sister’s fed up with school, her first three months of community college aggravating her so much she now desires to drop out, move out and get a job. Hmm…

I definitley had the “don’t ever drop out” convo with her like two years ago in the name of being a good older sibling, but that message apparently fell thirty yards off-target.

I definitely asked her to contribute to IWRI, to help her meet some motivated peeps, figure out what she’d like to do with her life, possibly start blogging, getting into an everyday groove…but yeah, nada.

At what point does not finishing your education seem like a good idea? Like…I’m trying to understand the situation. I recall wanting to leave SUNY Oneonta during my first semester, that whole “Fuck it man, I don’t need this shit. I can just quit and get a job.”

But what’s job all kids of this disposition refer to? I could’ve went back to working at Eletronics Boutique and Spencer Gifts I guess. That would’ve been really stimulating. My sister can keep working at the pizza shop and get a job in retail, but…ugh.

Has anybody else run into this predicament with a sibling? Help wanted.
